Did anyone see the Trojan marching band performance at halftime? The tribute to Michael Jackson was priceless. The played "Beat It", and acted out parts from the video - fight scene, moon walk, croth grab - it had it all. I was our band was that cool. They have been playing the Emperial March from Star Wars and Crazy Train for well over 12 years now.
Stanely Mclover is skipping hiw senior year to go pro. I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to play for a splineless defensive coordinator either.

Oooouuuucccchhhhh.
I missed the halftime show as I was trying to use that 25 minutes to brush up on approximating a binomial distribution with the normal approximation. I thought you would appreciate that Larry.
What I did see was two silly athletes. When Reggie Bush get's the ball, it looks like someone is hitting the B button from Madden football. He actually looks significantly faster than everyone on the field. I think that USC was stupid for not letting him touch the ball 45-50 times.
At the same time, Vince Young was on another planet. I've never seen a defense on a 34 game win streak so scared. If Texas played Auburn, Young would have gone for about 1000 yards of total offense...in the first half. I've been a Texas-hater and a Vince-basher, but his performances going back to last year's Rose Bowl speak for themself.
If you haven't already, you must read the Sports Guy's running diary during the game. It is laugh out loud funny, while making some great points. Here's my favorite:
8:17 -- Highlight of the game so far: LeAnn Rimes belting out the National Anthem, followed by a cut to Matt Leinart with a pensive, "Have I had her yet?" look on his face. He's the best. We need to figure out a way to get him on the Jets next year.
Speaking of LeAnn Rimes, I was just at a Varsity basketball game and they played her version of the Star Spangled Banner on CD to open the game. Man, technology these days is amazing.
I was driving home from dinner during halftime so I missed the bands' performances (sorry Larry, I didn't perform any mathematical gymnastics in my head as I was driving).
VY was truly spectacular in that game. The only Texas games I've seen significant portions of in the past two years are the Oklahoma State game last year (VY pretty much single handedly brought Texas back from a huge halftime deficit -- note, this game should not be confused with the Oklahoma State game this season where VY pretty much single handedly brought Texas back from a huge first half deficit), the Rose Bowl last year where VY single handedly beat Big Ten Champ Michigan, and the Rose Bowl this year. And to think I thought he was overrated until the game the other night. I'm still not convinced he can be an accurate pocket passer in the NFL but he can sure as heck be a better version of Michael Vick. He's so tall and rangy that he doesn't look like he's running fast, but so was Matt Jones. I think we remember how fast that dude was.
I completely agree about Texas or USC destroying us this year. All that talk of us being the hottest team in the country and a team no one would want to face in a playoff turned out to be laughable. We masked a lot of problems this year with good fortune and an easy schedule. Our DE's are great speed pass rushers but they aren't good against the run. Our interior D line was a two man show with Wayne Dickens and Tommy Jackson (both seniors by the way) and they had to do all the run stopping. Our LBs are so small that if the O line can get off the D line and get a helmet on the LBs we just can't stop the run (Wiscy exposed this big time). Our DBs (with the exception of David Irons) cannot tackle worth a dick. If Eric Brock does not spend every second of spring practice doing tackle drills I want to be named Fan Defensive Coordinating assistant so I can make him do it. Overall, the D is a disappointment to me. We still have a ton of talent there, but we're just not always in the right positions and sometimes when we are we still don't make the play.
Larry, I am a little torn on the Gibbs situation. Coordinators usually don't go to the post game presser. So I have absolutely no problem with him not being there. However, word is he blew off some of the beat reporters in the locker room area...and that is bush league. At least shake your head and say "we got whipped. I got outcoached and the players got outplayed. We'll go back, take a look at the film, and work on getting things corrected in spring practice." That's all. Nothing more. You don't have to offer any insight. You don't have to beat yourself or your players up. Just a couple of sentences stating the obvious. How hard is that?
James, I read Sports Guy's diary and here's my take: stick to sports you know and like. He straight up admits he doesn't like or watch college football. So don't write an article about it then. When he bad mouths all non championship bowl games and says "who cares who wins between the #9 and #12 teams" he really shows his ignorance. The Georgia Dome was sold out for #9 Georgia vs #12 West Virginia. It was a thrilling upset that went down to the wire. And not to get too deep about the impact of sports, but I guarantee you the people of West Virginia really needed some good news this week. Having said all that, the bit about Leinart and Leann Rimes was pretty funny.
Overall reaction to the season: obviously glad we beat UGA and bama. Nine and three is about what I thought we'd be able to do this year. I just really didn't think we'd lose to Ga Tech (who looked even worse in their bowl game than us). Pleasantly surprised by the offense...mildly to moderately disappointed with the defense. Overall though, I'll remember the Cox to Aromoshodu to Taylor play against Georgia and Honk if You Sacked Brodie when I think of the 2005 Auburn season. And that is a good thing.
The problem I have with him is that this is not an isolated incident. He blew off the beat reports after the LSU game. That time he got pulled off the bus to face the media. Your right, a simple "We got beat, We'll get better" statement is easy to say. The guy is a chump. I imagine we won't make any coaching changes this year. When was the last time Tub didn't fire an assistant or have an assistant leave?
I agree to a point. As a fan and alumnus of Auburn, I would cheer for them and watch them if they were playing in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl (oh wait, we did play in that). But it's so disapointing to know that losing one game pretty much eliminates you from a chance to win a National title and to me that is just assanine. Heck, even if you win all your games, it doesn't guarantee you a chance to play for the title. I believe seasons are played to prepare you for something. Sometimes losing is a part of that. Ok, with my next example I'm not trying to compare NAIA soccer with Div I football, but here goes. When I was at Belhaven, my freshman year we went into the National Tournament as the 4th seed having lost 2 games during the season. (I use the pronoun "we" very loosely. I never stepped on the field in the tournament). We cruised through our two opening round games and then faced the #1 team in the country. We beat them in a shoot out before going on to beat the #2 team in the country. Now fast forward to my junior year, we went into the tourney as the #1 seed. We had lost our first game of the year and then hadn't lost since. What happens in the tournament? We lose 1 nil and then draw 0-0 and don't advance (I did play in this one, wait is there a correlation here). So my point is, that when you are member of the team (even when you're the water boy), you're always building for something to play for at the end of the year. College football is designed to make the big schools the most money at the end of the year. And this idea that the bowls are "sacred" is absured. The Peach bowl is not going to be the Peach bowl anymore. It will now be known as the Chik-filet bowl, that's something to strive for.
So on the one hand, I will continue to watch bowl games because I love college football. And I agree with Boner, that each bowl game means something to someone. Still, it would be nice to have some form of a playoff.
OR
taking it down a level from NAIA soccer, look at the GHS high school soccer team. My Junior year, we had no business being in the finals, let alone win the tournament. My senior year, We had a very strong team (I had a shut out season going) until we lost 1-0 to a weak Huntsville team in the substate tournament. Life is weird like that. James will probably say that he is the correlation factor.
I'd love to Larry, but you can't be a positive and negative correlation at the same time. Too many variables.
James, you took the bikini models out of your profile pic!
I know, I needed a change of pace. I'm thinking of changing my display name as well. You know, you've got to mix things up ever once in awhile.
It's funny, looking through my pictures I noticed that I don't have a lot of pics of myself. That's not a terrible thing, unless your trying to find profile pic.
I looked at our Amanda and my wedding pictures the other night. Those were defintely the "Heavy James" years.
I miss the bikini models already
You know what they say about your 6th year of college. You can really put on the pounds.
If you want to see bikini models, I've got a few pics you'd enjoy. Of course, Matt is in them, and not me.
I almost cried on Friday when I uninstalled Picasa from my work computer and had to delete all the bachelor party and wedding pics you guys sent me. I still have them on the home computer. I just enjoyed flipping through them at work every now and then to relive some old memories.
Or to see through a dress or two
that too
