As part of Jen's review for boards she signed up to receive the "question of the day" through email. Well, she took her boards a couple of weeks, but this was one of the questions this week:
Question of the Day: It’s a cold November day in the middle of football season in Atlanta, Georgia, when you are presented with "Uga VII", a 3-year old intact male bulldog in a red University of Georgia t-shirt. Uga is in for a routine check up and vaccinations.
You note an excessive amount of snorting, snuffling and slobber, (which is to say, normal for Uga). On auscultation, you hear a somewhat irregular heart rhythm with a slow rate; markedly slower on expiration.
T= 102.1 F (40 C) RR= 24 HR = 60 bpm
Reference values
What should you do?
A - ECG
B - Echocardiogram
C - Nothing
D - Chest radiograph, CBC, blood chemistry panel
E - Refer to for cardiology consult
I asked why there wasn't a choice F: euthanasia, but Jen didn't think that was funny. Anyway, just thought it was interesting that of all the mascots in the country, that's the one referred to in the question.
She leaves for Athens today. Say a prayer for safe travel and dry roads.
