PHIL. How are you??

I'd love to hear an update on how things are by you. I've tried calling, but your cell phone was busy and then it said to try my call later. I hope you guys are doing OK.

This is an email I received from a friend that Phil and I went to Belhaven with. It's nearly impossible to imagine what those people are going through.

"Just a quick note to let y'all know that we are safe. Hudson, Ella and I are in Columbus, MS at his parents. We finally found a news story today that told us our neighborhood is completely under water so we now know that we have lost everything. It is still sinking in that we are homeless but we are grateful that we are together and safe and that Hudson didn't have to stay at the hospital. This is obviously very difficult for us and will be for months as we won't be allowed back into the city for weeks and it will be months before anyone can return to live. It's a very weird feeling to say the least. We do covet your prayers. I'll keep you posted."

You know you're in Tennessee...

I can't imagine why the South has a reputation of being rednecks. Take a look at the 6'1", junior quarterback from Lynchburg, TN. He's #15 on the field, but #1 in your heart. Was he in Dukes of Hazard?

It's all over but the crying

Well, after weeks of everyday being a Saturday, I'm finally back at work. I'm actually pretty excited and it felt pretty good to be back at school. I'm hoping not to have a Sophmore slump and maybe even improve a little.

I haven't checked the weather, but hopefully everyone is doing OK after Katrina swept across MS, AL and I guess GA. Phil, how are things in J-town?

Only 4 days until AU kicks off. I'll be attending a wedding and reception so I'll have to watch on tape delay. There's probably no way I'll keep from hearing the score, but hopefully it will be a good game, i.e. AU winning by 21 points.

What a Crew

Hey fellas. I've been in Michigan that since last Wednesday so I've been out of the loop. Here's another pic to add to the mix. Nice banana Larry!! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I've driven over 3000 miles in the last 2 weeks and am ready to be grounded for awhile. Of course work starts Tuesday.

Phil, are you renting out space in your house for folks coming from New Orleans?? That is crazy stuff. I pray it will somehow slow down.

Helping a Friend

Hey guys, Rob's mom was in a car wreck in Anniston Tuesday. She's fine but she's a little banged up and her car was totaled according to Rob - he had to drive up from Auburn to pick her up and take her home. I called my mom and she's out of town until Friday night but I thought maybe some of the moms or wives (heck, I guess even the guys can do something) might want to check on her and see if she needs anything. You know, give her a ride somewhere (thank god Rob and Raymond don't read this site...they'd have a field day) or make a casserole or something. Just throwing it out there. I don't have her new phone number or address, but I'm sure Biddie does.

Life is good.......

Unless you fish and don't get a bite.

First Fish

First Fish.

Has anyone tallied all of the points ts determine the winner of the "Red Neck Sports Festival"?

Perserverance......

participating in a fishing contest even when you have the smallest pole in the group.

Blog Traffic Slows to a Halt

Maybe we're all a little worn out from that near-IronMan distance triathlon we completed this weekend. Or maybe some of us are too ashamed of our fishing rodeo performance (Phil, I'm still baffled as to how neither one of us pulled in a single fish). Whatever the reason, www.weekendinvegas.blogspot.com has been a little on the quiet side the last couple days. Hopefully we're all just gathering our thoughts to post a little later. I've been a bit busier at work this week, so that has cut down on my posts and visits. Thanks again to all the hard work by Larry and his folks (tell Patty I'm sorry I forgot to make the bed) and also to that drunken, turban wearing chicken wing chef. That guy cooks a mean wing.

I'm looking at another three day weekend this week but I doubt I'll have quite the stories to share when I return. We're heading to Indiana Friday for a surprise birthday party for Cece's mom (hope she doesn't read the blog). I'll try and tip back a cold one at the Knob in honor of Bob Eagle, Damon Levinson, and the rest of the back up groomsmen!

Here's to Joel.

One man really can make a difference

I wonder how above average I really am.

Home sweet home

Well, I made it back to Wiskey. No, no I didn't drive 150 mph, I actually ended up leaving last night at about 8:00 pm. I drove to Evansville and spent the night, then got up early and hit the road this morning. It really made a big difference getting home at 2:30 pm versus 8:00 pm. Not to mention it was much cooler at night and early morning. Of course, it's in the 70's here now.

I hope to put together some thoughts from the weekend, but let me just say it was awesome. The tri was an incredible idea and I'm glad we stuck with it. Larry, your parents are awesome and there place is amazing. I can't thank you and them enough.

Hopefully the posts will keep coming even though the next guys weekend is months away.

You people are crazy

All I wanted to do was sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee. However, after 5 minutes I had to go change shirts. Man, I've gotten soft.

Welcome Home James

How does it feel to be back in the good ol' South? Where it's 80 degrees by 9:00 am and your shirt sticks to your back on your drive to work. I believe yesterday the heat index was around 103 when I left the office. Ahhh, summertime. Well, I've got the bike rack on the car (just have to remember to put the bike on when I get home) and I've put in my last mini-workout before the tri (10.5 mile bike ride). I'll give you guys a call when I get home tonight. Hope the traveling goes well for Phil, Ryan, and Kevcock. See ya.

Race has been seeded

So you guys get a 10-20 minute head start? I think we should award points based upon how you do compared to your rank...

Heat 1
59 DINSMORE, JAMES
68 LUEDKE, RYAN
71 SHARP, MATT

Heat 2
133 LOWE, LARRY
135 MOYER, PHILIP

Heat 3
211 WILSON, CHARLIE

For a complete ranking, see the list of participants.

People in Wisconsin apparently have a lot of cash on them

Ryan, you're a native of this wacky state. Do you people not trust banks or something?

The Fish are Fighting Back!

Let's just hope this doesn't happen to any of us this weekend.

Checklist

Larry...what do we need for the tri? What all do we need at the transition? I'm assuming this will be much easier than a swim to bike transition. But since I've never done one of these bad boys I'd like a little direction.

Ran 2 miles today. Damn, running is boring. I will make this promise right here and now: I will never run a marathon. I'm sure I would find people to run the marathon with but the training would be so dang boring I could never do it.

On the road again...

About to head out. Pray for my alertness. I think I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. Again, all part of the training...

Tri Week Training

Taking it a bit easy in the run up to the big day. Ran 1 mile, biked 8.3 miles.

Congratulations to Raymond for hitting one way out of the park and getting engaged to a chick so far out of his league, it's baffling!

I see where young Mr. Ryan Luedke of Maumelle, Arizona got his entry form in by the skin of his teeth (I'm pretty sure everyone in Arkanzona has skin on their teeth) . Good to see you won't have to pull a Rosie Ruiz to join the rest of us on the course.

4:00pm Arrive at Lake House

5:00pm Fishing Rodeo begins
We will all fish with the same rod and reels - cane poles, bobbers, and crickets.
Four cricket jugs will be handed out, so we need to pair up.
All fishing will be from the docks on the shared lot (5 total docks)

7:00pm Fishing Rodeo ends
Points will be awarded for first, biggest, most, and smallest fish
(Jeremy you need to help me find cane poles and cricket tubes)

8:00pm Dinner
Mom will be making us a big pot of spaghetti, big salad, bread, and any other carbs that you care to injest

Saturday

4:45am Tri Participants Wake up

We need lots of water and gatorade to replenish ourselves before we head to the golf course

12:30pm Tee time at municipal

5:00pm Arrive back at lake - Free time until dinner

7:00pm Dinner
Someone needs to suggest a meal. We can do burgers on the grill or Jeremy can fry some buffalo wings. Let's get a concensus so we can plan for food run.

9:00pm Texas Hold'em tournament

Pulling away

Well, for a time it looked like Jeremy's default team was going to bring home the last tourney of the year. However, it appears that I will end the fantasy golf season on a winning note.

Does anyone know who won the previous 3??

Headlines can be confusing

This isn't really what I was expecting when I saw the term Jerk-O-Meter. I thought maybe they'd developed something specifically geared toward keeping up with Jeremy's...umm, visits to the Right Hand Palace of Pleasure.

Nice Backside

Dinsmore's Douchebags torched the back nine at Baltusrol for a -9. Hopefully the golf gods will not be as kind to the Double D's as they traverse the opening nine.

Shake what yo momma gave ya

In retrospect, I think the humping dog would have been a better move to go with. Classic Boner. (it may take several minutes to load, but it's worth it)

Post tri update

I spoke with my parents about using their house as a "transition area" between the tri and golf. They said that would be great. We talked about getting some Lawler's BBQ for lunch so if you have an objection to that please speak up. Maybe, just maybe I can talk my mom into making some rice krispie treats for you Larry.

Nine days to go...

Ten Day Forecast

Is this the standard late summer forecast for North Alabama? Scattered t-storms every day.

Fantasy Golf Updates

Nice work Larry, 4 over in the early going. Boner, 1 under, and none of my guys have tee'd off.

Phil, Jeremy, if you guys are scared to participate just say so.

Need a James DInsmore Health Update

How do you feel now?

Did Kevin Bail???

I just realized I didn't see Kevin's name on the registration list. Is he still in for the weekend, just not the tri?

Dilemma

Okay...thanks to Fil's great idea I checked the upcoming shows at the Fox Theatre. This would be a nice "full circle" moment because we went to see Les Mis at the Fox the night we got engaged and we're havng dinner on our anniversary at the same restaurant we went to the night of the engagement. Phantom of the Opera is playing at the Fox for a month starting at the end of August. Great...perfect...unbelievable luck, right? Well except for the fact that I'm pretty sure we're going to see it in London on October 2. It turns out that the girl Cece is doing the triathlon with this weekend and her boyfriend are on the same flight to London as us on September 29 (a little random perhaps?). Cece told her we'd love to go see a show while we're there and Sonya said, "Hey, we're going to see Phantom that Sunday night. Why don't you join us?" So, do I buy tickets to Phantom here and just see it twice in a month or do I keep looking elsewhere?

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions????

Wednesday Tri Log

Ran 2.0 miles, biked 5.33.

Larry, how's the prep coming along for this weekend?

Revenue Stream

There's a link on the dashboard page about allowing advertising on your page. I didn't read the details as to how the revenue is generated (probably a penny or two every time someone links from our page to an advertiser) but I was wondering if we should look into it and create a kitty for the golf get togethers. Just a thought.

Just a guy in his Speedo

Well, I decided I would ride my mtn bike up to the natatorium for a little evening swim. Only having an hour and a half to spare I hauled tail and hustled into the locker room. I quickly hop in my Speedo, grab my goggles and head for the pool. After the required shower I stroll out the door to see dim lights and a drained pool. Kind of bummed, ok pissed, since I saw no signs, or any indication that the pool wasn't open I went back to change into my biking clothes. So I'm kind of bitter, but think, well, I'll just put in some miles on the bike, plus there is a short stretch of single track mtn bike trails on the way home. Nothing to advanced or anything. Anyway, I make my way onto the trail and I'm doing my thing when I take a turn at full speed and lay the bike down. The first thing that hits is my shoulder then my head. Let me just take this moment to say kids, always wear your helmet. It saved me from certain concussion many times. I collect myself and hobble over to the nearest tree, weezing and looking around to see if anyone saw me. My shoulder and ribs hurt like hell, but I'm 4 miles from home so I do my best to make it to the house. After some ibuprofen and a couple of beers I can almost lift my elbow and hand above my shoulder. I'm not out of the tri or anything (so Ryan keep your comments to yourself), but just thought I would share my story of being an idiot. And to think, I didn't play Ultimate because I was afraid of tweaking a knee or ankle. Well, I hope everyone is having a grand night, I'm off to get another beer.

Golf Courses

We need to decide where we are going to play golf. I assume we will play the Pond on Sunday. Where do you guys want to play on Saturday?

- Muni
- Hampton Cove
- Broken Arrow
- Golden Tee at Thirsty Turtle

Muni is cheap and fits everyones level of play
Hampton Cove is always fun, but expensive
Broken Arrow is the course near my parents that we haven't played yet. Cheap. The course is kinda narrow. The elevation change on each hole is almost commical.
Golden Tee at the Turtle is cheap, beer is cheap, what else could you ask for?

Success

Trust Me

Forgetting to pack underwear when you train, shower, and change clothes at the YMCA before work is never a good thing. I have urinated twice today, and both times a few dribbles of pee end up running down my leg and making wet spots on my khakis (I really believe khakis are my biggest problem in life). Underwear traps the pee hiding out in the urethra. Urine on bare skin just doesn't feel right.

Music advice

Well, I know Larry, and I think Boner are putting together CD's for the weekend, but I've still got 11 hours in the car coming up next week. Any suggestions on good music right now? I mean, if you could only download 5 songs, what would they be?? Preferrably music that sounds good with the windows down since the Explorer does not have A/C these days.

Help

I need some help and advice. The old first anniversary is rapidly approaching (like a train in a tunnel!) and I haven't got the first clue as to what to get Cece for a gift. She just ordered mine the other day and she says she knows I'm going to love it. I'm screwed! My old standby is a gift certificate at a spa but that's getting a little repetitive. We're not sticking to the "Paper Anniversary" thing for a gift so I have a pretty wide open canvas here. Any ideas?

Tuesday Tri Log

Biked 10.25 miles, swam 400 meters.

Ran into a guy at the gym that works at Turner occasionally. He's a teacher and his school started yesterday so he switched to the early morning workout schedule. This dude is to running what Larry is to biking. His normal midday summer run is anywhere from 8-12 miles. He lives in Tucker (about 15-20 miles from midtown). One day he decided to just run to Turner instead of driving. You people kill me.

This site is for home viewing...not work. Some funny stuff on there. And some stuff Jeremy would like.

Any word on Ryan?

James,

Is Ryan going to be registering and attending? When are you two getting into town? I'm still planning on getting to my folks house late Thursday night and crashing there.

Fishing Tournament

The rules for the fishing Contest:

Everyone must use a cane pole. (Jeremy, where can we get 8 cane poles?)

This will even out the competition.

Time waster

Not sure if anyone has done this, but if you look up in the right hand corner there is a link to next blog. I guess it randomly chooses someone's blog. Anyway, I'll find myself scrolling through blogs for a few minutes occasionally stopping to read what people have to say. Of course, about 60% of the time they are in some foreign language. I'm wondering if any randoms have stumbled across our blog and thought it interesting. Hmmmm. Ok, probably not.

Getting ready for the CNB weekend

Maybe we should get t-shirts printed up...

Hurry Up and Register for the Tri

They have already cut off the online registration for the triathlon. I think they might still be accepting mail in applications. Check out this site for details.

Apparently we're trying...

...to beef up the weak out of conference schedule. There's been a lot of talk on the message boards in the last month or so that we're no closer to landing a big name opponent for the 2006 season when the 12th game becomes part of college football again. There was a rumor we were trying to work something out with Michigan. Then there was a big uproar because we were trying to get a two for one deal with either West Virginia or Pitt. Word on the street was that they were balking and wanted a straight up home and home series and our new AD wouldn't budge. So Jacobs has been taking a beating on the message boards from fans who are sick of paying out the nose for the right to buy tickets to Auburn vs. Louisiana-Monroe, Western Kentucky, and Temple. And I thought the acrimony and insults lobbed at Jacobs were well deserved. It doesn't really seem like it would be that hard to get a straight up home and home deal done with a Miami or Michigan or even a Notre Dame. They want the recognition, the big national TV game. All those guys play big name OOC games every year (I know ND isn't in a conference but they play a pretty tough schedule). Well apparently I was wrong. There's an article on espn.com today, a conversation between their two national college football columnists about the state of college football. The last comment Ivan Maisel makes is that Notre Dame is making an attempt to lighten their schedule. He says,
Ivan: They have made a conscious effort to lighten the schedule but it hasn't kicked in yet. They turned down Auburn. Auburn wanted a home-and-home. Notre Dame said no.
Then in his weekly chat session (which you have to watch live or else it goes straight to their Insiders only package) he elaborated saying he knew for a fact that Auburn approached both Notre Dame and Michigan about a straight up, home and home series and they both said thanks, but no thanks. At least we're trying. Now maybe we can actually get a deal done and upgrade our pathetic schedule.

Monday Tri Log

Got back into it a little better today. Ran 3.0 miles and rode just over 5 miles.

Cece is tapering it a bit and taking it easy this week for her race Sunday morning. She rode about 30 miles of the Silver Comet Trail (more in a minute on that) on Saturday with the girl who's doing the triathlon with her. Cece showed up at 8:30 am Saturday and met up with Sonya only to find out Sonya had already covered 30 miles that morning. Her boyfriend got up at 5:30 because he was doing a century ride...as practice for the century ride he and Sonya were doing on Sunday. These people are insane. I have no idea if their ride was hilly but still, doing 200 miles on a weekend?? Anyway, getting back to the trail Cece was on. The Silver Comet Trail is a paved biking/running path that runs from Smyrna (just outside 285 and pretty close to where Larry had his Hold 'Em tourney last year) to the Alabama state line...about 65 miles. Supposedly there is a trail being completed that runs from Anniston to the Georgia state line to meet up with the SCT. So you can conceivably ride from Atlanta to Anniston on a bike (or you should be able to do so soon). That would be a good weekend workout for us one day Larry. Check it out Chief Ladiga Trail and Silver Comet Trail

How do you change the name that appears when you post a link? I've fooled around with the help section on links but can't figure it out. For instance, if I was going to post a link to rednecks with computers and I wanted it to appear as "Rednecks with Computers" how would I go about this?

A slap in the face to UAT

You know how ESPN is doing 50 states in 50 days?? Well, I went to see when they would be in AL and where they would be at. If I'm reading it correctly, they will be doing there Alabama report on Sept. 3 at the Auburn/GA Tech game. That must be driving UAT fans crazy. Of all the places in the state they would choose to report from the "old cow college." I wonder if Phil made the list of best athletes from the state of Alabama.

Have you heard of this book??

Apparently this guy is an AU grad and wrote about his time there.

http://www.graphitepress.com/Pages/bhh/

Larry, showing how it's done

Let's see if this works.

http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=100_003975

I guess it was only a matter of time...

Okay, I know Tuberville has been squeaky clean since he came to Auburn and he has seriously raised the character and academic profile of the football team. And I know I shouldn't judge anyone, no matter who their uncle is. But do we really need another wide receiver this bad?
Me So Horny

Trust Me

It's never a good thing when your working late on a proposal and the water main to the building breaks. The grounds keeper came out to "fix" the leak. He quickly discovered the problem was more severe than he originally thought, so he shut the water off to the main building. he calls me on the phone and tells me I can't pee in the building. Hmmmmm. what to do?

I just opened up the back door of the building and peed.

Trust me, this is a very acquard feeling to expose myself and urinate on company ground. Luckily its 10:00pm and no one was around except for a few homeless dudes way off in the distance.

Don't forget to register

Well, I officially registered today. There's no refund so I'm all in.

Larry, what are you targeting for splits in each event? I'm trying to determine how fast I'll need to go to not lose by double digit minutes.

Also, I took the Explorer in for a little tune up this morning. I walk up to the counter, and the guy working was a younger guy, shaved head, goatee, basically a tough, cool looking dude. When I looked on his shirt, low and behold his name was Larry. See there are other cool Larry's in this world.

Getting a little nervous

Is it OK to be nervous if the only exercise that you've gotten in the past two months is on a long weekend in Biloxi throwing dice and sipping multiple tasty bourbon drinks? Did I mention that I gained 4 pounds on that trip?

Daily Tri Log

I finally made it back to the pool. Biked 9 mi, swam 0.5 mi.

Larry, is the swim awkward in a pool? Does it get congested? It just seems like you wouldn't really be able to pass anyone. How do you go from lane to lane...flip turns or just touch the wall and go under? So many questions.

Try this one

You have to install the program, so you may not be able to do it at work, but his is pretty cool. It's a lot like the msn page, but much easier to use once you get it running. At my parent's house you can see my dad's car in the driveway.

I can't wait until these feeds are live. Then I could be out in the driveway waving at you guys. Or we could look and see if Boner is really going to the gym or not.

First fall practice is this afternoon. The freshmen officially reported yesterday afternoon. The veterans officially reported last night. They get on the practice field today and start getting ready for the season. Two a days in the thick August air. Punishing cardio drills after hours of physical battles. Implementing the flea flicker we'll use to score the 8th touchdown of the game against bama. Life is good. And the Georgia Tech game is a mere 33 days away. War Damn Eagle!
