You Can Call me J.J.
Okay, not really, but my quest to follow in James' footsteps (and become James Junior) continues tomorrow with my first foray into the world of substitute teaching. I'll be taking over Tonia Armer's gifted classes at Lanier Middle School for the day. Wish me, and the poor students, good luck as we embark on this mission of knowledge, education, and spitballs hurled at the back of my head together.

Ahhh, yes my young Jedi. If I could offer a few words of advice.... YAWAYAWAYAWAYAWAYAWA TEACHING.
First of all, this doesn't really count. Gifted class?? So basically you're going to have 15 little Larry's who won't need any instruction. Instead they'll be self-motivated to complete their assignments, and when those are done they will work on their time machine design or play chess.
Try having 15 kids that just took 2 hours of state, standardized testing for their 3rd straight day. It's a nightmare. I thought I was going to explode today. On the bright side, I just wrote two different Probs and Stats tests. Here try a question:
A fishing camp has 16 clients. Each cabin will accomadate 5 fishermen. In how many ways can the first cabin be filled with clients?
In all seriousness Matt, best of luck. I know you'll do great. When in doubt, just go with sports trivia. Oh wait, gifted class, probably don't have time for sports.
4368
Bonus, How many clients get stuck sleeping with naked Remer?
Matt,
Just keep saying, "A sphincter says what"
or ask them what i to the ith power is.
Good luck. The classroom is great. I know James has it far worse than me, but 30 college kids that aren't following what you are writing ont eh board for 1:15 twice a week is interesting as well.
Almost Larry, I think what gets people is that you're only considering the first cabin, so it's a permutation instead of a combination. It's still impressive that you know this stuff.
I can't tell how I would respond to college kids. It's like they pay to be there, but most of them probably still don't want to be there. I'd love to sit in on one of your classes Larry.
Can't wait to hear some stories Boner.
Today was an absolute breeze. The kids were good. The teacher left a movie and a worksheet for them to do. All I had to do was take 2nd period to an assembly and 4th period to lunch. Gifted kids RULE. Tomorrow I have an algebra class so I'll be channeling my inner James.
On a down note, I never, ever want to have a little girl. I swear the 8th grade girls dress in tighter shirts and jeans than chicks on mtv.
By the way...what the he!! is a permutation?
Glad the first day was a good experience. Just ask one of the gifted kids what a permutation is.
I hear you on the way young girls dress these days. Just wait to you have a conversation with the school counselor and they tell you some of the things the 8th graders are doing while not in school. WOW. Let's just say they aren't worried about wearing khaki's.
